Diogo Landô
A classical statue, a spray painted yellow smiley, letters torn from a poster. In Diogo Landô’s work, centuries of history fit into a single image. Born in 1985, Diogo lives and works in Portugal. He studied Arts and Communication and Design and Communication at the Escola Superior Artística do Porto (ESAP) and, before devoting himself fully to art, worked as a designer, art director and photographer on a range of creative projects. That experience went on to shape the direction of his artistic practice. Fascinated by the possibilities of the digital medium, he creates unique works that bring together collage, photo manipulation and painting, combined with cutting edge production processes. Influenced by street art and pop aesthetics, he has built a modern, urban visual language that stays deeply connected to memory and history. The result is intense, layered work that bridges classical and contemporary art and invites us to look beyond the obvious. For Landô, beauty lies not only in aesthetic perfection, but also in the raw emotions that art can awaken. Irony, ambiguity and contradiction live side by side in his works, which shift in meaning depending on how we approach them. His path includes solo exhibitions at Galeria Aurora in Barcelos, Galeria ApArte in Porto, MAD Marvila in Lisbon and Galeria Nuno Sacramento in Aveiro and Ílhavo, as well as international art fairs such as ArtMadrid and Frame Basel. He has also taken part in group shows in Belgium, Germany, Spain, France, the United Kingdom, the United States and Singapore. He has completed residencies at MAD Marvila and the Portuguese Screen Printing Centre, and his works are held in collections such as the António Prates Foundation, the National Library of Portugal, the Luís Figo Foundation and Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas.
